Results are in on the 40th Avenue West corridor study
Results of the 40th Avenue West corridor study were announced at a public meeting hosted by St. Louis County Public Works on Thursday June 27th. At the meeting recommendations were given for the reconstruction of a portion of 40th Avenue West in Duluth, from the railroad tracks near 9th Avenue down the hill to Grand Avenue, including the intersection of 40th Avenue West and Grand Avenue.
Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge and Minnesota Slip Bridge Operations Adjusted for Fourth of July Celebrations
Duluthians looking to celebrate the Fourth of July with the expected fanfare should note some essential interruptions in their travel across local bridges. According to a City of Duluth announcement, the iconic Aerial Lift Bridge will stay grounded on the evening of July 4th, suspending its usual operations to make way for the fireworks display. Specifically, from 7:00 pm to 11:30 pm, the bridge will not perform any lifts. Vessels that can sneak under the bridge without necessitating a raise may continue to pass underneath.

DECC leaders bring good news to city following cash issues
DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) -- After some financial uncertainty leading to a large loan ask, DECC leaders share the popular convention center is doing well. DECC leaders said last year’s events brought thousands of people through their doors, but while the building was doing well from the outside, the inside facilities were failing. In the end, the process of fixing the DECC’s failing facilities racked up a bill of more than $600,000.

It may seem surprising that a mayor would be opposed to a project that would bring 350 construction jobs, 25 permanent jobs and $1 million dollars in annual tax revenue to their town but that’s exactly how Superior’s mayor Jim Paine as well as other city officials and citizens feel. The proposed natural gas plant is a cooperative venture of Minnesota Power, Dairyland Power Cooperative from LaCrosse and Basin Electric Power Cooperative of North Dakota. The biggest concerns being voiced are public and environmental issues. Duluth is one step closer to improved athletic venues
On Monday, Duluth City Council passed a resolution authorizing $380,000 for Iowa-based group RDG Planning and Design to create an athletic venues plan for the city. “They’re going to do a needs assessment to make sure that we’re building the right quantity of athletic facilities for the right people, and then come back to us with recommendations,” said Duluth Indoor Athletic Venues Task Force Chair Todd Fedora. “It’s nice to see. It shows a commitment on behalf of the city that we are going to move forward.”
