Arkansas shocks the SEC with a surprise 4-star commitment

The Arkansas Razorbacks really needed a win this offseason.

After a big step backwards in 2023, head coach Sam Pittman is feeling the pressure of performing this season. If things go South, then he could be looking for a new job in 2025.

Fortunately for him and his staff, the Razorbacks got a much-needed win on the recruiting front. On3's Hayes Fawcett shared via X that 4-star linebacker Tavion Wallace had committed to play for Arkansas.

It's a shocking commitment for Arkansas. On3 had Wallace with only a 1.0 percent chance at choosing Arkansas, with the Florida State Seminoles as the runaway favorites. Even the Florida Gators and Georgia Bulldogs were given better chances at luring Wallace to their schools.

A 4-star linebacker out of Jesup, Georgia, Wallace is widely considered a top-60 recruit in the 2025 class. He's the younger brother of former Kentucky Wildcats linebacker Trevin Wallace, who was drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round back in April.

Wallace is far and away the top recruit in Pittman's 2025 class. The next closest is 4-star quarterback Grayson Wilson, who is ranked 343rd nationally by On3.

It's a disappointing recruiting class in total for Pittman. They're currently the 26th recruiting class nationally, but the 12th-best class in the SEC.

The commitment will give Pittman some short-term relief from the fan base. Still, Razorbacks fans are expecting better than a four-win season in 2024.

If Arkansas can't even qualify for a bowl game for the second straight seasons, then boosters and fans everywhere will be calling for a replacement immediately after the season ends.
