    Bonita Springs, Fort Myers Beach move to single-day solid waste collections

    Beginning Monday, April 29, residents of the City of Bonita Springs and the Town of Fort Myers Beach only have to put their trash, recycling and yard waste to the curb once a week.

    Waste Management, Lee County’s contracted hauler for the area, is announcing the service enhancement through postcards mailed to each of the 27,715 affected addresses. For questions, contact Waste Management customer service at 239-334-1224.

    Residents also can use the search feature on the Lee County Solid Waste website to determine which day of the week is their new collection day. Visit www.leegov.com/solidwaste/

    Lee utilities customers may notice change in taste, odor, color of water

    Lee County Utilities will be temporarily converting its disinfectant process from chloramines to free chlorine residual from May 1 through May 21. This is a routine measure that is common for water utilities using chloramines as its primary disinfectant.

    Anyone who uses a kidney dialysis machine at home should contact an equipment supplier so the proper filtering equipment may be installed. Tropical fish or aquatic animal owners should contact a local tropical fish store for appropriate pretreatment of water before adding water to tanks.

    Customers may notice a temporary change in the taste, odor and color of the water, which is not harmful. This is a routine measure to ensure customers of clean, safe potable water.

    Customers with questions can call 239- 533-8845 during normal business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    FSW hosts Financial Aid Workshop April 27

    Florida SouthWestern State College is hosting a Financial Aid Workshop on Saturday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Lee Campus in Room S202. The event is intended to aid both current and prospective students in understanding and filling out the 2024-2025 FAFSA forms.

    The workshop will provide assistance with FAFSA forms and offer students the chance to speak with representatives from various FSW departments including the Registrar, VA, Advising, Bursar, Workforce Education and Admissions.

    Prospective students attending the workshop will be able to apply to FSW and will have the application fee waived. Additionally, there will be a chance for attendees to win a $500 scholarship.
