NEOSHO, Mo. — A Newton County resident is accused of attacking a man with a golf club.

Austin McGuire, 33, of rural Neosho, was arrested Friday at his home. Court documents say the incident began when his ex-girlfriend showed up at the residence to pick up some personal items. McGuire is accused of hitting the man who came with her, striking him on the head with a golf club.

McGuire fled the home while the victim was treated for a serious injury at the scene. Deputies were tipped off that McGuire returned a short time later. When McGuire refused to leave the home, the Special Response Team was called in, using tear gas to force him out.

McGuire has been charged with second-degree assault, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest.
