DENVER (KDVR) — A 12-year-old girl was struck by a car while on her way to school Wednesday, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Police responded to the auto-pedestrian crash at about 9 a.m. at the intersection of Orchard Road and Harvest Street. The girl was reportedly on a motorized scooter when she was struck by a pickup truck that was making a lefthand turn.

The child was going to school with friends, and the driver remained on the scene.

The girl was transported to a local hospital as a precaution, but her injuries at the scene appeared minor, police said.

Police said incidents like this are a good reminder that as the school year begins, more pedestrians will be out and about during morning hours.

Drivers are encouraged to look for pedestrians everywhere at all times, use caution when turning, be prepared to stop when entering a crosswalk and never pass vehicles stopped at crosswalks, among other tips from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association .
