(FOX40.COM) — A 4-year-old boy drowned in a backyard swimming pool on Monday morning, according to Manteca Police.

The agency said that officers responded around 11:30 a.m. to a home near the corner of Cistus Court and Lantana Way, on the southeastern side of the city, after receiving a call.

Officers performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took the boy to a hospital, but he did not survive, police said.

According to police, the child’s mother and brother were in the home but did not know that the young boy had gone to the backyard near the pool.

Detectives determined that it was an accidental death, police said.
