Just weeks before fall camps open for the 2024 college season, the Fresno State football program underwent a massive change when head coach Jeff Tedford stepped down due to ongoing health issues. Tedford spent a total of five seasons, during two separate tenures, leading the Bulldogs. Under the 62-year-old coach's watch, Fresno State won three Mountain West West division titles, two Mountain West Conference titles, and played in four bowl games (all wins). Associate head coach/linebackers coach Tim Skipper has been promoted to interim head coach for the 2024 season.

Skipper, a former Fresno State linebacker, has deep ties to the program, and with a strong performance in 2024, could see the interim tag lifted from his title. Nonetheless, athletics director Garrett Klassy still has plenty of work to do as he begins to sort through potential Fresno State football coaching candidates. If you love the Bulldogs, or just want to know who will be calling the shots for Fresno State in the future, be sure to see what the proven team of insiders are saying at BarkBoard.com, the 247Sports affiliate that covers Fresno State .

    Top Fresno State coach candidates

One name the BarkBoard staff has identified as a potential target if Skipper doesn't keep the job long term is Arizona State offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo. He is widely considered to be one of the top offensive minds on the West Coast and boasts an impressive resume. Tedford will likely be involved in the decision-making process and has a personal connection to Arroyo from their time together at Cal.

Arroyo is highly familiar with the Mountain West Conference with stints as the head coach at UNLV and as an assistant and player at San Jose State. The 44-year-old head coach is known for his recruiting prowess and ability to develop quarterbacks. If Arroyo is successful in his current role as Arizona State's offensive coordinator, he is sure to be a hot name for several openings at the end of the season. See more candidates at BarkBoard .
