Greg McElroy Identifies 'Most Disrespected Program' in SEC

All eyes are on the SEC right now as many believe there are numerous championship contenders in the conference. However, one team might be getting overlooked ahead of the season. At least that's what Greg McElroy of ESPN seems to think, as he names the program that's being "most disrespected" within the conference.

While sitting on the panel at the SEC Media Day, the crew went through some of their predictions for teams in the conference. McElroy quickly noted that he believes the Florida Gators are the " most disrespected program " in the SEC right now, according to FL Sports Takes.

"I think Florida is the team being most disrespected in the entire league."

The Gators over/under win odds are only at 5.5 for the 2024 season, per Vegas Insider. Greg McElroy seems to believe Florida is capable of hitting the over and reach seven wins on the season. If that's the case, then head coach Billy Napier is probably doing something right.

It's been a tough road for the Gators recently as they've held a losing record in three consecutive seasons. Many believe they're heading for a fourth straight losing season in 2024. But McElroy is much more optimistic about Florida than most.

The reason to hesitate on Florida is valid. They have a rather difficult schedule this season with matchups including Miami (FL), Texas A&M, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, LSU, Ole Miss, and Florida State. Outside of those games, the Gators don't necessarily have any easy matchups on the schedule. They will also face off against Mississippi State and Kentucky, who are both capable of beating Florida.

There is some hope though, as the Gators are in the middle of a rebuild. Head coach Billy Napier is entering his third season as head coach and his system should be more put together this year than his first two. Napier holds a 51-26 record as a head coach for Louisiana and Florida. Before becoming a head coach, Napier spent 14 seasons coaching the offensive side of the ball.

Another reason for optimism is how well Billy Napier and the Gators recruited this offseason. Surprisingly enough, Florida currently holds the No. 7 overall rank in recruiting and are No. 5 in acquiring players through the transfer portal, according to 247 Sports. They've acquired two five-star commits in DJ Lagway (QB) and LJ McRay (DL). The Gators also reeled in eight four-star commits as well.

If anything, Greg McElroy might be optimistic about the Gators due to the things brewing within the program. At the very least, Florida appears to have a bright future despite the 2024 season being a bit of a toss-up.
