Construction continues on a "pocket park" in downtown Gardner.

The $376,635 project will convert the site of the former Maki Building on Parker Street into a three-tiered space to be used for outdoor seating, permanent cornhole boards, and a performance stage.

A pocket park is defined as a small-scale site designed to provide a safe and inviting environment in urban settings.

The City Council appropriated $180,000 from the city's free cash account for the project, which is being constructed by Busy Bee Nursery in Holden. The remainder of the funding is coming from a portion of the city’s American Rescue Plan Act funds.

The project is expected to be completed by September.
