South Carolina basketball coach Lamont Paris recently finished re-tooling his Gamecock roster for the 2024-2025 season. After USC lost Ta'Lon Cooper (graduation), BJ Mack (graduation), Stephen Clark (graduation), Meechie Johnson (transfer portal), Josh Gray (transfer portal), and Ebrima Dibba (transfer portal) from last year's team, the Gamecocks have two freshmen, three transfer portal players, and a former walk-on filling those six roster spots. New South Carolina baseball coach Paul Mainieri will have the luxury of an elite group of junior college talents joining the program in his first year with the Gamecocks. At the time of this writing, USC has received commitments from seven junior college prospects as pitchers Brandon Stone (Johnson County Community College), Brandon Clarke (State College of Florida), Jackson Soucie (Wabash Valley College), Kemper Nix (Spartanburg Methodist College), and Brendan Sweeney (Blinn College) and position players Jase Woita (Kansas City Kansas Community College) and Cayden Gaskin (Northwest Florida State College) will join the program this fall.
Outlook, Hope, Reality: 2023 vs. 2024 on Offense
It is the last day of June, 2024. That means we are at peak list and prediction season as it relates to the forthcoming college football season. When you read the various predictions about South Carolina, the truth is there aren't that many in the media that are high on the Gamecocks this season. Primarily, folks talk about the schedule, which is full of teams that historically (recent and way back) Carolina has struggled against. Those concerns are valid. If every team on the schedule is as good as they can possibly be, this season will be tough. But while history tells us the truth about the Gamecocks struggling with most of these programs, it also tells us that nearly every season there is talk about how tough South Carolina's schedule is and nearly every season it ends up not being as tough as what was once thought.
In-state South Carolina football target now a consensus 4-star
One of the top uncommitted recruits in the class of the 2025 for the South Carolina football program is in-state wide receiver Malik Clark. The Rock Hill High School product was not ranked by most of the major recruiting outlets last summer, but a strong sophomore season for the Bearcats and some big-time showings on the camp circuit fixed that problem.
Charleston Dirty Birds win final game of the series against Lexington
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Dirty Birds defeated the Lexington Legends 4-3 in the series finale. Charleston improves to 11-1 against the Legends this season. Kevin Smith earned his first win of the season after giving up two earned runs in his six innings pitched. He allowed six hits and one walk while striking out 11. The three relief pitchers were lights out and did not allow a hit, run, or walk. The pitching staff combined to strike out 16 Legends hitters.
