The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (Con Fire) sprang into action in response to a distress call reporting multiple individuals trapped in an elevator at a senior care facility on Carol Lane in Oakley. Upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered a challenging situation exacerbated by additional hazards.

Water was discovered leaking from the second floor of the facility, directly into the building's main electrical room. Recognizing the imminent danger posed by the water, Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) swiftly intervened, determining the leak to be a significant hazard. Consequently, the decision was made to shut off the main power supply to prevent any potential electrical incidents.

In the face of these pressing circumstances, Con Fire personnel worked diligently to ensure the safety of all occupants. A total of 50 residents, along with their beloved pets, were safely evacuated from the facility. Emergency responders coordinated closely with management to facilitate the relocation of residents while cleanup and repairs are underway.

The source of the water leakage has been identified as a sewage leak originating from the second floor and seeping into the electrical room, posing both health and safety risks to residents and staff alike.
