GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — On January 16, 2023 around midnight, Jasiya Reynolds shot Aveon-Collins Smith twice in the back of the car.

Collins-Smith was sitting in his car in The District Apartment Complex in Greenville. After he was shot, he was able to drive his car approximately half a block south before crashing into an occupied apartment by an innocent bystander on the corner of Oak Street and First Street. The bystander was injured, but survived.

Shortly after the crash, Collins-Smith died.

On June 26, 2024, Reynolds pled guilty to second-degree murder and received a negotiated sentence of 20 to 25 years. Reynolds was 16 at the time of the shooting and was 18 when pled guilty.
