POCATELLO — A 24-year-old local woman was recently arrested after police say she struck a man in the shoulder with a wooden board.

Jordyn Camille Ropicky, of Pocatello, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery following the incident.

Pocatello police were dispatched to a residence on Jefferson Avenue around 9 p.m. Tuesday for the report of a physical disturbance, according to police and court records the Idaho State Journal recently obtained.

Upon arrival, officers interviewed the male victim who said that when Ropicky’s legal guardian told her that she would not be able to see her father on Aug. 30 she said, “If I can’t see my dad then I am going to jail.” police said.

Ropicky then went into her bedroom and took a wooden board from one of the shelves and proceeded to strike the victim in the shoulder with the board, the report says.

Ropicky told officers that she struck the man in the shoulder and said that she did not want to go to jail for it, according to police.

She was subsequently charged, arrested and booked inside the Bannock County Jail in Pocatello.

She appeared in front of 6th District Magistrate Judge David Hooste for an arraignment hearing on Wednesday, during which she was ordered to be released from jail on her own recognizance.

Ropicky is due back in court on Sept. 18 for a preliminary hearing, which will involve local prosecutors attempting to prove there is enough evidence against her to elevate the case from the magistrate to district court level for trial.

If convicted of the felony aggravated battery charge, Ropicky faces up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000

She also faces a felony enhancement for using a deadly weapon during the commission of a crime, which could extend any prison sentence levied against her by up to 15 years.
