Just ahead of 2024 Training Camps kicking off , a bombshell went off in the NFL space.

With San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk officially requesting to be traded. With him now available, let's discuss whether or not the Indianapolis Colts should consider trading for the star WR.

Should the Colts trade for Brandon Aiyuk

Aiyuk has recorded over 1,000 receiving yards in back-to-back seasons and has had the most targets in the star-studded 49ers offense for both years. The Colts offense and WR room would, without a doubt, improve drastically if they chose to trade for Aiyuk. But that's not the question here.

To trade for Aiyuk, a team will likely have to send a trade package that includes a first-round pick and more. And that's just to get the 49ers to play ball and trade a player they've publically said they have no interest in moving. The thing that makes these types of situations challenging is that agreeing to a trade just gets you in the door. Behind the door is Aiyuk and his team, who are ready to negotiate with a team to pay him like one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. And that price tag in today's NFL isn't cheap.

So, to land Aiyuk, a team will have to send the 49ers a large trade package and pay Him likely north of $30 million a year. This would make him one of the NFL's five highest-paid WRs: Justin Jefferson, A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Tyreek Hill.

I have a hard time seeing the Colts doing this, especially since they are already paying Michael Pittman Jr. $23.33 million a year over the next three years. The team also invested their second-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in Adonai Mitchell , their third-round pick in 2023 in Josh Downs, and their second-round pick in 2022 in Alec Pierce. Some fans may not think the Colts' WR room is good enough to warrant passing on Aiyuk. The amount of financial resources and the recent high-end draft capital they have invested in the room makes me think it's unlikely that they will trade for Aiyuk, but it also makes me think they shouldn't do it either way.
