    Kills, digs and aces: Vote for IHSAA volleyball players of the week (Aug. 19-24)

    IndyStar will be recognizing the top volleyball players in Indiana with our players of the week poll.

    Congratulations to Northview's Keira Lucas on being voted Player of the Week for Aug. 17 ! The six-rotation senior has the Knights off to a 3-0 start with wins over Brebeuf Jesuit, Danville and Evansville Memorial. She tallied 54 kills across nine sets, including 20 in the opener vs. Brebeuf. Lucas also logged a couple assists, nine blocks (two solo) and 57 digs (three double-doubles).

    Here were the top performers from the past week.

    Alyana Barrett, Lawrence North

    Barrett recorded 81 kills over 16 sets (five per set), helping the Wildcats to a 5-2 start.

    Lexi Closson, Northwestern

    The senior setter recorded her 1,000th career assist during the week. She’s recorded 73 assists, 67 digs, two blocks and four aces through her first five matches (14 sets).

    Maddie Follman, North Central

    Follman helped the Panthers score a five-set win over Southport, registering 19 kills, three aces, a block and 12 digs.

    Emma Hull, La Porte

    Hull posted 47 digs in a 2-1 loss to Franklin. It was her third straight match with 20-plus digs (27 vs. Concord and 25 vs. Hanover Central), leaving her with 173 for the season. The senior defensive specialist 173 digs and six aces through her first 22 sets.

    Trishell Johnson, Daleville

    Johnson hit .472 and racked up 50 kills over her first 10 sets. She also notched two aces, three blocks and five digs. Daleville is 3-0 with wins over Tri, Wes-Del and Cowan.

    Rose Mahin, Franklin Community

    The junior hitter started her season strong, picking up 67 kills and hitting .382 over 16 sets. She also tallied 22 aces, four blocks, 49 digs and three assists, helping the Grizzly Cubs to a 6-0 start.

    Paige Mayer, Southport

    The six-rotation senior picked up 38 kills (20 on .302 hitting vs. North Central), six aces, a block and 31 digs over 11 sets last week.

    Kenzie Mann, Covenant Christian

    Mann totaled 39 kills and nine aces over five matches (12 sets). Her week was highlighted by a 12-kill, four-ace performance in a four-set loss to Triton Central.

    Izzy Masten, Tri-West

    Masten dominated matches against Chatard and Danville. She put down 22 kills and hit .636 in a sweep of the Trojans, then posted 17 kills (.394 hit%) to help beat Danville in straight sets. Masten also registered a couple aces, a couple blocks and 18 digs (14 vs. Danville).

    August Northern, Ben Davis

    Northern was credited with 61(!!!) digs in a five-set win over Cardinal Ritter. She committed only four dig errors in the match and also served up six aces.

    Marissa Roe, Chesterton

    Roe has 38 blocks on the season, 17 of which came over the past week. She had seven against Munster, six against Lowell and four vs. Penn. Roe has 29 kills and five digs for the season.

    Anabelle Schembra, Center Grove

    Schembra tallied 130 assists and 33 digs across four matches last week, helping the Trojans hit .292 as a team. Center Grove (4-1) travels to Cathedral on Tuesday.

    Macie Smith, Hamilton Heights

    The Huskies played five matches this week and Smith was brilliant across all five, netting 63 kills, a couple blocks, 37 digs, six assists and three aces. Hamilton Heights is 8-1 this season, with its lone loss coming in dramatic fashion vs. Western Boone.

    Addy Tindall, Homestead

    Tindall marked her debut with 20 kills (.318 hit%) in a four-set win over FW Concordia Lutheran, then capped the week with 12 terminations in a sweep of Leo. She finished the week with 35 kills (.403 hit%), four aces, two blocks and 19 digs.

    Audrey Utterback, Plainfield

    The freshman debuted this week, putting down 113 kills and hitting .353 with 48 digs. Utterback's week was highlighted by 21-kill efforts vs. Whiteland (.444 hit%) and Northview (double-double). She posted a second double-double in Saturday's rematch vs. Northview.

    Bryn VanVleet, Seton Catholic

    The 5-10 senior middle is spearheading the Seton Catholic attack thus far, putting down 48 kills (.449 hit%) over nine sets. She also tallied seven aces.
