Forecast: Evening Storms Again, Then Mostly Dry

Again, we’ll see a round of storms move across central Iowa this evening ahead of and along a cold front crossing the state. A few may be strong. Wind and hail will be the main things to watch out for, and we’ll also see heavy rain at times.

These look to wrap up by early Monday morning. Monday and Tuesday look to be mostly cloudy days, but we’ll have warm temperatures. A few very spotty late-day storms are possible, as shown in the two images that follow.

Rainfall amounts through Tuesday won’t be enough to create flooding concerns, and for the most party we’ll have a dry week to bring river and, eventually, reservoir levels down.

While a severe storm isn’t out of the question this evening, most of the week will stay quiet. We are watching next weekend. There will be plenty of heat and moisture around Saturday and Sunday, but the atmosphere may be too warm aloft to allow storms to form.

Below, the latest forecast path for Beryl. Its remnants will miss Iowa to the southeast.

High temps, below, will be in the mid-to-upper-80’s this week, but will get hotter by the weekend. We could see heat indices near 100 Saturday, and near 105 next Sunday.

As we’ve discussed in prior posts, it still appears we’ll have an overall warmer and drier period ahead for mid-July, as shown in the outlooks that follow.
