    Fort Jackson drill sergeant found dead at home

    FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WSPA) – A drill sergeant at Fort Jackson died over the weekend.

    According to a release from Fort Jackson, Staff Sgt Corey R. Brown, 34, of High Point, was found unresponsive in his home on Sunday and later pronounced dead.

    “This is a solemn day for Team Jackson as we mourn the loss of a teammate and friend,” said Fort Jackson commander, Maj. Gen. Jason E. Kelly. “We are providing comfort and assistance to his family and fellow cadre members and extend our deepest sympathies to all who knew him.”

    Brown served for more than 13 years. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (7), Army Good Conduct Medal (4), and the National Defense Service Medal.

    His cause of death is not known at this time.
