JAMESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — People with hearing and sensory sensitivities are once again invited to enjoy the “quiet fireworks” at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown on July 4.

From Beavertail, people will be able to see Newport’s annual fireworks display from a distance. While the fireworks won’t be noiseless, the sound will be largely reduced.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) is hosting the event. DEM says the viewing is wheelchair-accessible and stroller-friendly.

Children at the viewing must always be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are allowed, but they must be on a leash that is six feet or shorter.

The DEM is encouraging visitors to wear mosquito repellent and bring a flashlight.

The Beavertail Aquarium will also be extending its hours to 9 p.m. with interactive crafts and activities.

The fireworks will start at 9:15 p.m. with a rain date set for July 5. The event is open to people of all ages and abilities.
