The KSO recruit of the week this week is Derby corner and Kansas State commit Martel Jackson .

    NAME : Martel Jackson
    RANKING: ***
    CLASS: 2025
    POSITION: Corner
    HOMETOWN: Derby, Kansas
    HIGH SCHOOL: Derby
    POWER FOUR OFFERS: Kansas State
    COMMITTED: Kansas State

    Recruiting summary

The recruitment of Derby corner Martel Jackson was fast and furious. Kansas State offered the rising senior cornerback at the first camp of the summer on May 30. Shortly after receiving the offer from the Wildcats, Jackson worked to schedule an official visit for June 7-9.

It didn’t take long for him to commit to K-State. He was the first of five players from the Sunflower State to commit to Kansas State over the summer. Other schools were working to get Jackson to camp, but he shut his recruitment down after the offer from Chris Klieman .

    Evaluation

Kansas State definitely has a type in the secondary and Jackson fits the bill. He is very, very long at 6-feet-2 and can really, really run. His length was on full display at the K-State camp where he was especially effective in one-on-one situations against wide receivers.

Where Jackson really shines is his speed. It is the trait I am most excited about because he possesses it in spades. He took third place in the state track meet in May in the 200-meter dash and also ran a 10.6 second mark in the 100-meter dash the spring.

He will be part of what is beginning to look more like a track team at the cornerback position than anything with Kanijal Thomas , Donovan McIntosh , Jacob Parrish and fellow 2025 commit JoJo Scott of Florida.

Jackson has good ball skills and really breaks on the ball when it is in the air. It is nice to see for someone his age. His track is to be quite the playmaker in coverage.

I am very intrigued by the Derby product’s senior film. He has came a long way from his junior season to even where we sit in July.

It is why I think he could be a riser in his recruiting ranking because he continues to get more polished and has added more strength since his junior season ended. Jackson possesses all the tools to make a strong position to Power Four football, much like Parrish.

    Prediction

No prediction is needed. Jackson started the avalanche of 12 summer commitments for Kansas State.
