The Boys and Girls Club, located at Sierra Vista Junior High School, was recently renamed to honor a longtime board member as a tribute to his legacy.

Thomas E. Dierckman’s enduring commitment to the community and the Boys and Girls Club has been a testament to his unwavering dedication s ince he began in 1997.

But his involvement with the Boys and Girls Club dates back to when Dierckman was just a little boy in Shelbyville, Indiana when it was known as the Boys Club.

Over the years, Dierckman’s contributions have left an indelible mark on numerous lives. Community members, including Mayor Pro Tem Bill Miranda, President of the Hart District School Board Linda Storli and representatives of the offices of Mike Garcia, Pilar Schiavo, Scott Wilk and Kathryn Barger, were present to honor his legacy.

A current Boys and Girls Club member even recited a poem she made for Dierckman.

During Dierckman’s speech, he continually reiterated how thankful he was to everyone who helped him along the way. He stated he couldn’t have done anything without them, and it takes a village to get the job done. Additionally, Dierkman made it a point that he is truly blessed and owes it all to God.

Similarly, Boys and Girls Club CEO Matthew Nelson spoke about how it takes a village to do anything and without Dierckman in their village, it wouldn’t be the same.

“We are thankful to God that you accepted the call to give of your time and your talents and contribute to so much of what is meaningful to this valley,” said Stephanie English, representative of Kathryn Barger’s office. “So much of what the Boys and Girls Club is today is because of your contribution over time.”

During the ceremony, Nelson, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club, announced that there would also be a plaque to honor Dierckman, with his story on it, to encourage the current and future kids of the Boys and Girls Club.
