Tennessee Vols' Tony Vitello made an eye-opening statement about Christian Moore on the broadcast during the draft

Tony Vitello is never one to hold back an ounce about what he's feeling.  The Tennessee Vols' skipper is going to send whatever is going on in his head straight through his mouth without any alteration or filter.

But hey, that's why his players love him.  That's why the fans love him.  And that's why the media loves covering him.  He's fun.  He's fiery.  He stands up for his guys.  And he gives great quotes.

On Sunday night, he did all of those while a member of the broadcast team on MLB Network during night one of the MLB Draft. Christian Moore was selected by the Los Angeles Angels at overall pick number 8.

When discussing Moore's contribution to his team, Vitello made quite the comparison regarding his former star infielder to some incredibly good players.

"The one thing I want to say about being around him is, as a position player to impact the game, it's difficult," Vitello said.  "You need strikes from the pitcher.  You may hit a ball hard at somebody.  I've never been around a guy who can decide he wants to win a game and impact it the way he did.  In order to win the SEC this year, you were going to have to beat Kentucky, a great club.  We were one to one going into game three against them, and he literally took over the game .

"The other thing I'll say in uniform, it's very obvious how physical he is.  Cognitively, he is off the charts.  Ian Kinsler, Max Scherzer are really the only two guys I've been around that have the same kind of cognitive ability that C-Mo has."

That's some pretty high praise from Vitello.  Kinsler and Scherzer are two of the best to play the game in the twenty first century.  Scherzer is ticketed to end up in Cooperstown at the Baseball Hall of Fame when he's done playing, and Kinsler - a four-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, was one of the best middle infielders in the game with the Rangers and later with the Red Sox.

There's no doubt that Moore has a hammer of a bat .  There's no doubt that he has the clutch gene.  There's also no doubt he is one heck of an athlete.  But sports are often as much about the mental aspects as anything, and much of that comes from preparation that goes on outside of the view of fans.

If Vitello's sky-high praise is indeed spot on, then Moore very well could be in a position to find himself through the minors and with the big-league club sooner than later.
