Drug trafficker who led Spokane Police on high-speed chase sentenced to federal prison

SPOKANE, Wash. - A drug trafficker who led Spokane Police on a high-speed chase has been sentenced to federal prison.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, 46-year-old Juan Pablo Carrillo-Nava was sentenced to about six years in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release for one charge of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Court documents and information at the hearing said Carrillo-Nava was a drug runner for a Mexico-based drug trafficking operation working in Eastern Washington.

On August 13, 2020, undercover investigators arranged a meeting with Carrillo-Nava to buy drugs. When they arrived at the agreed location, Carrillo-Nava was not there. Investigators then went to another location where they saw a green Honda Accord Carrillo-Nava had used before.

Spokane Police arrived at the scene and tried to stop Carrillo-Nava. Instead of stopping, he sped off into a neighborhood sometimes going 75 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone.

Officials said Carrillo-Nava crashed his car into another oncoming vehicle, pushing his car into a chain link fence. He then took off running.

Carrillo-Nava was taken into custody a short time later by police. DEA agents found over $28,000 in cash, almost two pounds of heroin, and more than a half-pound of methamphetamine in his car.
