Declaration Celebration on the Square: Celebrating Our Foundation
The heat index may have exceeded 100 degrees, but that didn’t stop a good number of patriotic folks from attending the celebration on the Chariton Square on Monday night, June 24. Hosted by the Lucas County Republicans, our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, was honored by being on display, copies handed out, and being read in its entirety.
Community invited to celebrate new ownership at Cater 2 U 2 ribbon cutting
Chariton Area Chamber/Main Street invites the community to a ribbon-cutting celebration at Cater 2 U 2, a cherished local business now under the ownership of Tyler and Brandi Ruepke. The event will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:00 AM at Cater 2 U 2, located at 1215 Court Avenue in Chariton.
567 days since last medication error at LCHC Medical Clinic
Lucas County Health Center Chief Operations Office Lori Johnson gave the Quality Report for May at the monthly LCHC Hospital Board of Trustees’ meeting Tuesday, June 25. Johnson reported that there were two transfers of Acute Myocardial Infarction (heart attack) patients at LCHC in May. The average transfer time for these patients was 49 minutes, which is below the target goal of 60 minutes per transfer.

Indianola City Council Approves First Consideration of Reduced Speed Zone on Hwy 92
The Indianola City Council met in regular session Monday. The council approved the first reading of an ordinance for establishing a reduced school speed zone on East 2nd Avenue, changing the speed limit from 45mph to 30mph in a school speed zone during school hours. The change will include flashing school zone signs, however the speed limit change is pending Iowa Department of Transportation approval.
Knoxville Public Library Holding “Olympic Story Time” with Randy Wilson on Thursday
The Knoxville Public Library is holding an Olympic Story Time event with Randy Wilson on Thursday. This is an opportunity for kids in the community to hear stories from one of the greatest track and field athletes and coaches in Iowa history. Wilson will also talk about his experience qualifying for the Olympics in 1980, as we are approaching the 2024 Summer Olympics. Knoxville Public Library Director Roslin Thompson hopes kids in the community can come out to hear about Wilson’s experience.
THRIVE Knoxville Seeking Volunteers for Community Clean up Crew
THRIVE Knoxville is looking for volunteers for their community clean up crew. This crew meets on certain days in different locations in Knoxville to pick up trash and spruce up the local parks for visitors and community members. The group has met five times already and there are two dates left if you are interested in helping beautify the Knoxville community. The upcoming clean up crew dates are July 17th at the Knoxville Rec Center and Knoxville High School from 4:00-5:00pm and July 20th in the downtown area from 8:00-10:00 am. Katrina Nelson with THRIVE says that they normally do the clean up in the spring, but with big events coming up they decided to move it later.
