    Former Aggie Keith Jones II selected by Texas Rangers in 9th round of MLB Draft

    EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – NMSU’s Keith Jones II will have a chance to play at the next level after being selected in the 9th round, at the 285th pick in the MLB Draft by the Texas Rangers.

    Jones had a standout season in his senior year for the Aggies, leading the program for the second consecutive year in terms of batting average with a .367. During the 2023 season Jones finished with a .377.

    The outfielder collected 81 hits, 17 homeruns, 67 runs and 67 RBI’s during his final collegiate season.

    In terms of Conference USA, Jones ranked among the top players when it came to batting average, OPS, runs, double, triples, RBIs, total bases and slugging percentage. Jones earned multiple conference accolades such as the programs first CSUA Hitter of the Week honor.

    Jones becomes the first Aggie drafted to the Rangers, ninth to be drafted in the first ten rounds and 35th overall. He is just one of seven Aggies eligible in this years draft class.
