National flooring retailer to close all stores, including 5 in Kentucky. Sales have begun

LL Flooring, the hard-surface retailer formerly known as Lumber Liquidators, is officially closing all of its stores, including one located in Lexington, the company announced in a letter to customers Friday .

“We are writing with some news regarding our business and Chapter 11 process,” LL Flooring CEO Charles Tyson wrote in the letter, referring to news the retailer previously announced in August .

Tyson explained LL Flooring failed to secure financing that would keep the company afloat.

“As a result, it is with a heavy heart that we must let you know that we are going to begin the process of winding down LL Flooring’s business and closing all of our stores,” Tyson wrote.

LL Flooring’s online store locator shows there are at least five locations in Kentucky, including two in the Louisville metro area, one in Lexington, one in Bowling Green and one in Florence. The Lexington store is located at 2320 Fortune Drive, Suite 170.

A manager at the Lexington LL Flooring location was not available for comment Friday afternoon. The Herald-Leader was unable to confirm what will become of the employees there.

Earlier this year, the company had more than 400 store locations across the country, according to media reports.

On its website, the company is advertising a 50% off sale on select floors, delivery and installation, with the sale ending Sept. 10.

“We are planning for closing sales to begin at all of our remaining stores on Friday, September 6, 2024. Closing sales will be held over the subsequent approximately 12 weeks with the timing of closures varying from store to store. We look forward to offering you great deals through the closing process.

The retailer first opened its doors to customers more than 30 years ago in 1993.

“We sincerely appreciate the loyalty of our customers over the last three decades, and as we begin to wind down operations and close our stores, we are committed to doing so as smoothly as possible to minimize the impact on you, our associates and the communities we serve,” Tyson wrote to customers.
