Kentucky has only offered two players in the 2026 class, Tyran Stokes and Miikka Muurinen ; Brandon McCoy Jr. could be the next.

The 6-foot-5, 170-pound point guard from St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) told KSR+ that Kentucky assistant Jason Hart has been the main person in contact from UK. He hasn’t scheduled a visit yet, but that could come soon.

“I definitely like the staff with Coach [Mark] Pope and Coach [Jason] Hart,” McCoy said. “I’m looking forward to building that relationship.”

McCoy is looking to visit Kentucky sometime in September or October for a practice, a source told KSR+. Hart has taken a lead role in the recruitment with Cody Fueger also playing a part.

McCoy’s recruitment has blown up lately. His most recent offer came from Duke on Monday .

    Playing Up with the 17Us

Despite being a rising junior, Brandon McCoy Jr. spent the whole summer playing with the Arizona Unity 17U squad. That shouldn’t come as a surprise after McCoy helped lead Team USA to a U17 FIBA World Cup Championship.

“I had a great summer,” McCoy said. “I had an even better last summer, so just to top that means a lot. We got a gold medal. I’m just looking forward to high school now.”

McCoy cemented his status as a top two prospect in the 2026 class, being ranked No. 1 by On3 and Rivals and then No. 2 by 247Sports and ESPN. Tyran Stokes is the other player in contention for the top spot in 2026. After playing with Team USA together, Stokes and McCoy have talked about teaming up at the college level.

“It’s a talk. We haven’t had a serious, serious talk about it, so we’ll see,” McCoy said. “We would win and beat everybody.”

Being Part of a Historic Group

The 2025 and 2026 recruiting classes are considered two of the best in recent memory, so Brandon McCoy being considered the top prospect in 2026 is nothing to scoff at.

“We’ve got a lot of good players and a lot of good talent,’ McCoy said. “There are really good players among two really good classes. It means a lot. This group will probably go down in history.”

As for his own game, McCoy considers his ability to make the right play his greatest strength, as well as his motor. Now, he’s just trying to consistently work on his shooting and playmaking.

“Rankings aren’t everything, but it would be great [to finish as No. 1], a blessing for sure,” he said. “I don’t think what my ranking is in high school will get me to the next level and what my final goal is.”
