Football scandal triggers wave of school hires, abrupt removal of security chief
This past December, Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria posted an ad for a new head football coach. On Feb. 12, Darryl Overton, a championship football coach from across county lines at Freedom High School in Woodbridge, took the position, bringing with him an estimated 30-plus football players transferring to Hayfield from Freedom and at least three other area schools.
Thank you for reporting on Hayfield recruiting scandal
I just wanted to thank you for your story “Recruiting scandal at Hayfield widens into multiple investigations” in the Fairfax Times on June 28-30. I hope you will pass along my congratulations to Sravan Gannavarapu and Asra Nomani for an excellent piece of investigative reporting. Without your coverage I think it is unlikely that any investigation within FCPS, or anywhere else in our county government, would be taking place. Much like the previous issue withholding earned Merit Scholar notifications from students, FCPS continuously tends to sweep these issues under the table unless they are exposed externally. The fact that an individual principal was allegedly able to pull off such a blatant disregard for FCPS policies with perhaps even legal ramifications is quite disturbing. I hope you and your team will continue reporting on the outcome of these investigations.

Convenient color combo leads to college pick for LC's Sanyiah Littlejohn

Sanyiah Littlejohn figured out her best colors are green and gold, having seen plenty of success wearing those colors through three years at Lansdale Catholic. George Mason’s colors are green and gold too and thanks to a year-long process, Littlejohn decided it might not be a bad idea to stay in those colors at the next level as well.
