Letters: Put Newport residents first
Last fall Middletown politicians promised voters a new middle/high school and elementary school upgrade projects for a $190,000,000 bond. Voters narrowly approved the projects. Then the politicians, without any public review, requested state approval for $210,000,000. Major work has not started and bonds have not been issued. Politicians just applied for $12.25 million in grants for additional school building costs. Politicians claim the projects are on time and on budget. How is that true?

Inspired by a community engagement course where she had the opportunity to work with Rhode Island Food Policy Council and tour the Pell School Garden, Abigail was eager to bring her students into meaningful conversations about what is needed to build an equitable and resilient local food system. The outcome of the project is incredible! Scroll below to view the students’ work and reflections.

NEW BEDFORD — The South End’s new elementary school will be called the Congdon-DeValles Elementary School when it opens, which is planned for January 2027. The School Committee considered a long list of suggestions from the public before voting Monday to use the names attached to two elementary buildings that will retire when the new construction finishes. Congdon, the abolitionist and politician often referred to as a founding father of New Bedford.
There's a big problem with co-op teams in the RIIL. These five programs have fixed it.
I hate co-ops in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League. It's not the schools. It’s not because of the players. It’s not what it represents — communities unable to fill teams themselves, so they're forced to combine together to play as one. It’s the names. ...
