Upper Valley hosts 43rd annual Prouty
On July 13, almost 4,000 individuals raced in the Prouty, a fundraiser for the Dartmouth Cancer Center. The event — which is the largest family-friendly fundraising event in New England — raised more than $8,141,000, which will go to research, clinical trials, patient food pantries and other patient services, according to the Prouty website.

New Bedford Man Sentenced for Drug Trafficking and Gun Charges
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A New Bedford man was sentenced to eight to 10 years in state prison for cocaine trafficking while also in possession of an illegal gun. Johan Baez, 37, pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to indictments charging him with trafficking cocaine, carrying an illegal firearm-subsequent offense, possession of a high-capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.
67-year-old killed in Fall River moving van crash while volunteering for nonprofit
A 67-year-old volunteer died in the incident. Another volunteer was hospitalized, but is now in stable condition. A 67-year-old Dartmouth woman died after being struck by a box truck in Fall River Wednesday, authorities say. A 64-year-old man was hospitalized in the same incident, but is now in stable condition.
Rhode Island Man Sentenced to Two Years for Bomb Threat on Flight from Orlando to Providence
A Rhode Island man has been sentenced to a two-year term in federal prison after making a bomb threat on an airplane, a serious offense that led to a costly and unwarranted security response. Evan Sims, the 41-year-old from Rhode Island, will also face three years of supervised release following his incarceration, as per the ruling by U.S. District Judge Harvey E. Schlesinger.
Westport Animal Controls says 3 cases of rabies found in town

The man behind the Suboxone business, Michael Brier, was a former Rhode Island tax preparer who had previously been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison in 2013. He was prosecuted by the Department of Justice.
In-house fixes to Fort Getty pier cost $90K
More than $100,000 was saved by having the public works department fix the pier at Fort Getty rather than going out to bid for a contractor. Town Administrator Ed Mello reported the good news to the town council at its meeting Monday. The total cost to repair the 6,000-square-foot dock, which was damaged during a storm in December, cost $90,477. The estimate to hire a contractor was more than $200,000.
