    Sterling man arrested for vehicle shooting

    Sterling Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting earlier this month, according to a news release from the department.

    Sterling police officers responded to the 100 block of Fifth Avenue on August5 for a report of an unoccupied vehicle that had been struck by a bullet from a firearm. After an investigation, officers identified Gregory S. Mcelhiney, 43, as the shooter and obtained an arrest warrant for Mcelhiney for Criminal Damage to Property under $500 (a class A misdemeanor) and Felon in Possession of a Firearm (a class 2 felony).

    Mcelhiney was taken into custody on August 12 on the no bond warrant and taken to the Whiteside County Jail where he waits for an initial hearing.
