Suspect in shooting near Ypsilanti park still at large
YPSILANTI, MI -- Police are still looking for a person suspected in a shooting in Ypsilanti’s Depot Town. Police were called to the 500 block of Rice Street around 11:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, for a report of shots fired, Tom Koch, Ypsilanti Police Department spokesperson, said, adding that officers spoke with a male victim at the scene, who was uninjured.
Pinckney man pleads guilty after disturbing behavior at Food Truck Friday
PINCKNEY — A local man arrested at Food Truck Fridays on June 21 after exhibiting disturbing behavior toward children has pled guilty and will be sentenced in August. According to court records, Jeremy Mills, 38, was charged with kidnapping child enticement (a felony), two charges of assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer (a felony), two counts of assault and battery (a misdemeanor) and disorderly person jostling (a misdemeanor).
‘Treacherous’ currents sweep kayaker, child downriver in separate Ann Arbor incidents
ANN ARBOR, MI -- Both a kayaker and a child in an inner tube had to be rescued from the Huron River Saturday afternoon in simultaneous but separate incidents. Ann Arbor fire crews were called around 4:40 p.m. Saturday, July 13, after a boy in an inner tube became separated from the rest of his party, said chief Mike Kennedy. The boy, 10, and his companions had gotten into the river near Argo Park, 750 Longshore Drive, before he was caught in some trees and stranded along the riverbank near Nickels Drive.

Calls for police service up 27% over last year. In June 2024, Deputies responded to 317 calls for police service in the City of Dexter, up from 250 the previous year, a 27% increase. Total calls for 2024 (Jan-Jun) are 1,640, up from 1,439, a 14% increase for the same period last year.

Incident #: 24-2304 Location: 14000 block of E Old US 12. INFORMATION: While on routine patrol an officer observed a vehicle traveling towards them at what appeared to be faster than the posted speed limit. The officer turned his vehicle around and was able to confirm the vehicle was in violation of the posted speed limit. The officer stopped the vehicle in the 14000 block of E Old US 12 and made contact with the driver of the vehicle. Upon making contact with the driver of the vehicle the officer immediately noticed a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the vehicle as well as the driver as the driver spoke with the officer.
Police arrest masked suspect in armed robbery at Brighton Hampton Inn
Brighton Police announced they arrested a man, 22 of the Howell area, on Monday at approximately 4:15 p.m. They described him as the “sole suspect” in the armed robbery of the Hampton Inn Suites.
Man accused of shooting brother with pellet gun pleads to manslaughter
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI - An Ypsilanti Township man accused of fatally shooting his brother with a pellet gun has pleaded to manslaughter. On the day his jury trial was set to begin, Steven Michael Harris instead pleaded to no contest to one count of manslaughter in the 2022 death of his brother.
Armed Robber Targets Hampton Inn Brighton
The search continues for an armed robber who took cash from the front desk of the Hampton Inn Brighton. According to police, officers were dispatched around 1:20 am Monday. Prior to arrival, officers were advised that the suspect had entered the Hampton Inn Suites, went into the bathroom, and then exited the hotel. The same suspect then reentered the hotel armed and wearing a mask. The suspect went behind the front desk counter where a hotel employee was sitting, opened the cash drawer, took the money, and exited the hotel.
