Crews Reduce Sewage Discharge Into Ore, Little Ore Lakes
On July 14, 2024 at approximately 9:45am, Hamburg Township officials were notified of an apparent sewer break on Branch Drive at Mohican Drive with sewage being discharged into the already flooded area. Hamburg Township Supervisor Pat Hohl responded and determined that a significant amount of sewage was flowing out of a manhole opening into the flooded area and Ore Lake.
Flood Warning Continues For Huron River In Hamburg Township
A flood warning continues for the Huron River in Hamburg Township. Supervisor Pat Hohl tells WHMI there is some serious flooding happening on Ore Lake and in the midst of that on Sunday morning, there was a sewer break in a manhole on the end of Mohican Drive in the Branch Drive area. He said they were able to get the flow stopped within a couple of hours and then began working on the repair, which was completed around 10pm Sunday. Hohl said it was bad enough to have a sewer leak but it being in a flooded area and a couple of feet underwater made the repair very difficult.

Contaminated soil costs Saline $2.3 million in wastewater treatment plan
SALINE, MI - Saline’s nearly three-year, $62-million construction project to upgrade its aging wastewater treatment plant recently encountered a $2.3 million problem. The city was informed that low levels of contaminating PFAS were found present in on-site soils. As a result, soil removal costs will more than quadruple from the base bid of $10 per soil ton to $47.94 per soil ton.
Historic preservation grants go to 7 Michigan communities
FLAT ROCK — Seven Michigan communities have been awarded funding from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). Grants totaling $250,000 will benefit local preservation and community planning goals in Charlevoix, Coldwater, Detroit, Flat Rock, Holland, Livonia and Washtenaw County. The grants represent awards from the federal Historic Preservation Fund (HPF)-Certified Local Government (CLG) program administered by SHPO. Pinckney Schools nears contract agreement; teachers to vote
PINCKNEY — Pinckney Community Schools and its teachers union have reached a tentative contract agreement that, if approved, would be in effect for the 2024-25 school year. Members of the Pinckney Educational Support Association still have to vote on the tentative contract. The previous contract was in place for two years from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024.
