Pinckney Community Schools Subject of Racial Discrimination Lawsuit
Multiple reports over the weekend of a lawsuit alleging leadership at Pinckney Community Schools "failed to meaningfully address" racism against minority students. The lawsuit filed by Detroit-based Marko Law claims four boys and one girl who attended Pathfinder School "suffered emotional trauma and substantial disruption to their education," forcing some students to leave Pinckney Community Schools "out of fear for their physical, personal and educational well-being."

Pinckney Schools nears contract agreement; teachers to vote
PINCKNEY — Pinckney Community Schools and its teachers union have reached a tentative contract agreement that, if approved, would be in effect for the 2024-25 school year. Members of the Pinckney Educational Support Association still have to vote on the tentative contract. The previous contract was in place for two years from July 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024.

EMU Aims to Help Opioid Crisis with Narcan Training Events for Students, Faculty, and Staff
Recent studies have highlighted a concerning rise in opioid overdoses on college campuses across the nation. To minimize overdose rates and increase emergency medical preparedness, Eastern Michigan University is hosting monthly training events for EMU students, faculty, and staff on administering Narcan in response to the opioid overdose crisis. These trainings are possible thanks to a partnership between EMU School of Nursing and the Community Mental Health Partnership.

Tyler Horky of Manchester, Mich. (48158), has been named to the Kalamazoo College spring 2024 dean’s list.
