$50 adoption fee this month at Humane Society of Huron Valley
Submitted by Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) From July 8 to 31, adopting an adult cat or dog (over 6 months of age) at HSHV will only be $50, thanks to sponsorship from BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness. “Empty the Shelters” will be taking place in 390 shelters in 44 states to help deserving shelter pets find loving homes.

Pretzel Bell has reopened in downtown Ann Arbor after July 4th fire
ANN ARBOR, MI -- Pretzel Bell in downtown Ann Arbor is back in business after a Fourth of July fire that caused it to close. The restaurant at 226 S. Main St. reopened at 4 p.m. Monday, July 15, with a limited menu after some electrical damages caused the restaurant to lose all the food in its coolers, said owner Jon Carlson.

BRIGHTON —A downtown building owner in Brighton says news of Jameson's Irish Pub and Grill's closure left people with the wrong impression. Eric Siegel of EDS Investments — whose family owns the building at 110 E. Grand River Ave. — said "the notion that we kicked Jameson’s out of the building has somehow circulated the market."
Washtenaw United: Youth Arts Alliance helps young folks create community and improve lives
Heather Martin, Youth Arts Alliance (YAA) lives in Ypsilanti with her son. Heather has been a teaching artist for over 15 years and holds a Master’s of Social Work degree from The University of Michigan. She believes that healing-centered, arts programming welcomes healthier, safer communities. Heather has extensive experience in the coordination and management of innovative, collaborative arts and culture projects through collective interdisciplinary community coalitions. Heather built YAA’s programming model on strengths-based, trauma-informed practices, research in landscape of mental health, and the need for fostering critical intergenerational connections in community through collaborative art making.

Pinckney’s Sitko Posts Sixth Career Win at Phoenix Bass Fishing League Event at Detroit River
TRENTON, Mich. (July 15, 2024) – Boater Michael Sitko of Pinckney, Michigan, caught a five-bass limit weighing 24 pounds, 13 ounces, Saturday to win the MLF Phoenix Bass Fishing League (BFL) Presented by T-H Marine on the Detroit River . The tournament was the second event of the season for the BFL Michigan Division. Sitko earned $10,917, including the lucrative $7,000 Phoenix MLF Contingency Bonus, for his victory.

Ann Arbor, MI — Even moderate exercise can help keep workers from feeling burned out, results of a recent study show. Researchers at the University of Michigan surveyed 520 full-time workers, asking about their physical activity and whether they were burned out. Respondents were divided into three activity groups based on their level of exercise: low, medium and high.

Show off your hobbies and collections at the Fair!
The 79th Manchester Community Fair is fast approaching, and that means we have three more weeks to gather projects (or work on some new ones) for entry in the Exhibit Building at the Fair! This is an opportunity for Adults and kids to show off your cool collections, your unique hobbies, and your creative ventures. Entries will be accepted on Monday, August 5th, from 2pm to 8pm. (Note: Homemaker and Junior Homemaker award participants must register at the exhibit building by 4pm and all of their entry sheets need to be turned in by 7pm.) Entries get judged and small monetary prizes are awarded. It’s free and an awesome way to get your kids involved, too.
Country Blues Narrative With Songs At Brighton District Library
A program featuring a country blues narrative with songs is set tomorrow night at the Brighton District Library. The program will take attendees on a tour through history with a musical twist on Wednesday at the library from 7 to 8pm. It features a narrated journey from the first recorded Blues songs in the 1920s to just after World War II.

If you tried to drive through downtown Manchester on Saturday afternoon, you may have been surprised to discover Main Street closed off and traffic routed around. You may have been even more surprised to discover cars parked in both lanes. Sunday was the annual Concours d’Elegance in Northville, a prestigious car show where vehicles are heavily inspected and novelty/famous cars are displayed. Organizers offered participants a driving tour leaving from Northville as part of the weekend festivities with a stop in Manchester for lunch on Saturday as part of the weekend event. The stop was pre-arranged with the City.
