BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Those who have served will be honored this Memorial Day with a flag ceremony set to be held at Beckley’s American Legion Cemetary.

It has been announced that a service will take place at 8:00am on Monday, May 27, 2024, in acknowledgement of Memorial Day. The service will be open to community members and all who wish to join.

The ceremony will see a recently donated flagpole adorned with a brand-new flag, itself recently donated by United States Senator Joe Manchin III.

Local Girl Scouts will join the proceedings, placing flags on headstones throughout the cemetery. The Shady Spring Middle School Choir will be on hand to deliver a rendition of the National Anthem.

American Legion member, Ron Hedrick states that all are invited to join the proceedings, which will proceed Memorial Day celebrations in the Downtown Beckley area.

“W e would invite anybody that wants to come within the entire community,” said Hedrick. “What better place to start Memorial Day than at the cemetery of the fallen veterans? We’re open for anybody and everybody to come out.”

The event will offer coffee, donuts, and hot cocoa, and is anticipated to conclude between 9:00am and 9:30am.

American Legion Cemetery can be found at 1708 S Kanawha Street in Beckley.
