HURRICANE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man assaulted his cousin because the home was untidy.

On August 15, 2024, Deputy C.D. Campbell was sent to a home in Hurricane, WV , to respond to a reported domestic incident.

The caller, who is the female victim, told 911 that “Jason” was hitting her. She mentioned that she had separated from him and moved to a back bedroom, believing he was in the living room. Upon arrival, Lt. Hall and Deputy Campbell found the front door partially open, and no one was responding to them, so they entered the home for the safety of anyone inside.

As Deputy Campbell walked into the living room, a female identified as the victim came from behind and greeted them. They took her outside to ask questions. The victim said the male had likely walked down the road after their argument.

She identified him as her cousin, Joseph Wayne Estes, and stated that she had been living with him since August 2023. She explained that their argument started over the untidy state of the home, and he had asked her to clean some buckets in the shower. She described how he began pushing her and lunged at her in a threatening way.

The victim also reported that he had head-butted her three times and punched her once on the left side of her face, noting that this was a recurring issue for them. Authorities located Mr. Estes sitting on a stump near the tree line, and he surrendered to law enforcement without resistance.

Deputy C.D. Campbell charged Mr. Estes with domestic assault and battery crimes .
