KIMBALL, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A McDowell County man attempted to stab his brother with a knife and hedge clippers after he became upset.

On the evening of Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, at approximately 5:55 PM, Corporal Martin from the local police department received a call reporting a domestic disturbance at an address on Tide Water Street in the town of Kimball, West Virginia.

According to the initial dispatch from the McDowell County Communications Center, the call had originally come in as a medical emergency, to which emergency medical services had already responded. However, upon arriving at the scene, the EMS crew was informed by the individuals present that a male subject, later identified as Billy Mullins, had brandished a knife and attempted to stab someone before fleeing the residence with the weapon still in his back pocket.

Immediately upon receiving this updated information, the Corporal began responding to the address. Once the officer arrived in the general vicinity, he spotted a male subject matching the given description and exited his cruiser, ordering the individual, who turned out to be Billy Mullins.

However, Mullins continued walking towards the Corporal, prompting the officer to draw his weapon and command Mullins to get on the ground. Mullins initially complied but then refused to stay down, pushing himself back up from the ground. At that point, the Corporal and a responding Trooper, Ingraham, approached Mullins and held him on the ground until they were able to place him in handcuffs.

The Corporal, along with Trooper Ingraham and Deputy Cline, then proceeded to the original address where the incident had occurred, making contact with Jimmy Mullins, who turned out to be the brother of the suspect, Billy Mullins.

Jimmy Mullins explained to the officers that he had asked his brother to remain at home and wait for the EMS crew but that Billy had instead become upset and pulled a knife and a pair of hedge clippers, attempting to stab Jimmy.

Based on the information gathered, the Corporal arrested Billy Mullins and transported him to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office for criminal processing. The entire series of events took place within the limits of the town of Kimball, in McDowell County, West Virginia.
