JJ Redick’s Instant Reaction to Lakers’ Dalton Knecht Pick Sparked Brutal Darvin Ham Jokes

The Los Angeles Lakers added a shooter in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft on Wednesday by selecting Tennessee G/F Dalton Knecht with the No. 17 overall pick.

Knecht, a near-40 percent shooter from deep during his final collegiate season with the Volunteers, already seems to have caught the attention of new Lakers coach JJ Redick.

According to The Athletic's Jovan Buha, Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said Redick's immediate reaction to the pick was to draw up "pindowns and ATO sets on a whiteboard" for Knecht.

"Rob Pelinka said coach JJ Redick immediately began drawing up pindowns and ATO sets on a whiteboard for Knecht for next season," Buha posted on social media platform X.

Lakers fans, understandably, appear thrilled by the proactivity from their new head coach.

Some in the NBA world, however, also took Redick's reaction as an opportunity to roast former Lakers coach Darvin Ham.

"Ham would have said 'hell of a ball player in our ball club' and gone to bed," one Lakers fan said.

Ham, dismissed by the Lakers earlier this year, recently joined the Milwaukee Bucks and is expected to serve as the team's top assistant.
