3 potential surprising cuts from around the NFL that would fit the Chargers

There are plenty of noteworthy players that will be cut before the 2024 NFL season begins. The Los Angeles Chargers could have interest in adding one or more of those players to create some more depth on their roster.

Mike Payton of A to Z Sports detailed a player from each of the 32 NFL teams that could be a surprise cut candidate.

3 potential surprising cuts from around the NFL that would fit the Chargers

    Mo Alie-Cox, TE, Indianapolis Colts

The Colts TE room has five players who have played roles on the teams offense over the past few seasons, Kylen Granson, Jelani Woods, Andrew Ogletree, Will Mallory and the vet in the room Mo Alie-Cox. Seeing how they cut down the room after Training Camp is going to be something everyone's eyes are glued to. Fans have been wondering when veteran Mo Alie-Cox's time would end but it's seemed like he has nine lives. With the youth in the TE room having signatory more inside where they choose to keep three or four TEs I think this is the end or the road for the veteran TE.

-- Colts beat writer Destin Adams

Adding tight end upside could be a nice option for Los Angeles. They added Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst in free agency already, but we will see if both of them make the roster. Donald Parham Jr. is the only other notable TE on the roster currently.

Alie-Cox is a massive target at 6'5 and 260 pounds. He could be a solid red zone target for Justin Herbert if he gets cut by Indy.

Joe Noteboom, OT, Los Angeles Rams

The Rams gave Noteboom a three-year contract in 2022 trying to replace Andrew Whitworth, but the idea never came close to fruition. Last year, even though Noteboom played 59% of the offensive snaps, he lost the starting job to Alaric Jackson. If the Rams decide to cut Noteboom before the last year of his deal, the team would open up $5.6 million in cap space in 2024. There will still be $6 million in dead money now and $10 million next year as a post-June 1st release, but at least the team can move on from a relatively expensive player who has underperformed.

    -- Staff writer Wendell Ferreira

Noteboom is an experience lineman who has played both tackle and guard on the offensive line. His play dropped off some in 2023, but he could be nice veteran depth for a team if the Rams cut ties with him.

The Chargers have their starting tackles with Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt in 2024, but Noteboom could be a notable backup tackle option.

Mecole Hardman, WR, Kansas City Chiefs

A short-lived reunion with the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVIII hero? It could happen. Chiefs assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Dave Toub recently revealed that offseason standout Nikko Remigio is currently the team’s top option at kick returner. If that development persists through training camp and the preseason, it could be enough to push Hardman off the 53-man roster come roster cuts. Hardman’s contract is a veteran salary benefit, so there is no guaranteed money attached to his deal.

-- Chiefs beat writer Charles Goldman

Revenge story? Hardman is not locked into a roster spot in KC after they signed him earlier in the offseason.

Adding more WR depth makes sense for the Chargers, and Hardman has some impressive speed. We will see if a Chargers rival makes him available before the season begins.

These are a handful of options who may become available for the Chargers. Keep an eye on them.
