Bronny James' Phone Call With Lakers Revealed After NBA Draft Pick

The Los Angeles Lakers finally revealed behind-the-scenes footage of the team selecting Bronny James with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft.

In the video posted on the official team page on X , Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and newly-hired head coach J.J. Redick are on the phone with James before the selection was made.

Pelinka highlights James' work ethic and high character -- attributes that Pelinka said they valued very much.

"It's important for coach Redick and I to let you know those qualities really stand out," Pelinka said. "And so the Lakers are going to draft you with the 55th pick in the draft."

Following Pelinka's announcement, the Lakers officially selected Bronny James, son of NBA legend LeBron James, in the second round (55th overall) of the 2024 NBA draft, marking the first-ever father-son duo in NBA history.

Before the draft, Bronny played for USC, appearing in 25 games and averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.

The pick has been controversial among sports analysts.

NBA star CJ McCollum i s very fond of the pick , believing that Bronny will mesh well with the Lakers. On the other hand, Lakers legend James Worthy has not been a fan of the idea, even before the pick was made official Thursday evening.

Regardless of what opinions people might have, the release of the footage showing Bronny being selected is cool to see nonetheless.

Now, all that remains is to see if Bronny lives up to the sky-high standards critics are setting for him.
