The Los Angeles Lakers have announced their coaching staff for the 2024-25 NBA season, reshaping the personnel around new head coach JJ Redick .

Former NBA head coaches Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks headline a talented list of assistants also including Bob Beyer, Greg St. Jean, Lindsey Harding, and Beau Levesque, with head video coordinator Michael Wexler.

The Lakers have done a good job in giving Redick the veteran support he'll need in his rookie year as a head coach on a roster with contending aspirations.

McMillan is an 18-year head coaching veteran who last coached the Atlanta Hawks before being dismissed in 2023. The former player has also served as assistant coach on two Gold-medal-winning Team USA rosters (2008, 2012) and is a very respected coach in the league.

Scott Brooks is a 12-year head coaching veteran, last being in charge of the Washington Wizards until 2021. He spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach on Chauncey Billups' staff in Portland, so he's already well-equipped with how to help a former player who is now a rookie head coach.

Outside the two big names, the Lakers have also added 17-year coaching veteran Bob Beyer, who spent the last two seasons on the Charlotte Hornets. Beyer has worked on staff around the NBA, with the Lakers being his ninth team.

Greg St. Jean returns to the franchise after previously serving as the head of player development from 2019 to 2021. He spent two seasons as an assistant with Jason Kidd on the Mavericks before spending last season with Frank Vogel's Phoenix Suns.

Lindsey Harding is the first woman to be named as an assistant coach for the Lakers, coming off a triumphant head coaching season in the G League where she received Coach of the Year for her work with the Stockton Kings. The former WNBA player was an assistant and player development coach for the Sacramento Kings for four seasons prior to spending last season as head coach of their G League affiliate.

Beau Levesque is getting his first job as an assistant coach, spending the last four seasons as a player development coordinator for the LA Clippers. Michael Wexler will serve as head video coordinator, a role he last held on the Minnesota Lynx during the 2023 WNBA season. He spent last season as a coaching associate on the Suns.

JJ Redick Reacts To His Coaching Staff

JJ Redick shared his thoughts about the new coaching staff on the Lakers in a press release.

“Through an intentional and thorough process, we've brought together an experienced, diverse, and dedicated coaching staff. Our goal from day one is to foster a high-performing environment of player development and team alignment through relentless work, daily collaboration, and innovation. Players and staff are here to enjoy the pursuit of excellence every time they step on the court. The expectations are clear, and my staff and I are committed to doing everything we need to do to ensure success at the highest level.”

The coaching team doesn't feature much-rumored additions such as Rajon Rondo but is a very competent group of names for Redick to surround himself with as a rookie head coach. Veterans like McMillan and Brooks will help him navigate the murky waters of coaching, as Redick aims to impose his own style to maximize the Lakers' chances next season .
