Brighton mother is sentenced to prison over death of her child
A Colorado woman accused in the death of her child was sentenced on Tuesday after pleading guilty to child abuse resulting in death and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.Nicole Casias, of Brighton, was sentenced to 22 years in prison. Brighton police say her 22-month-old child was found dead with 10 times the amount of fentanyl that is needed to kill an adult in its system. The girl had been exposed while Casias was supposed to be caring for it.The child's father, Alonzo Montoya, was sentenced to 40 years in prison in April. Investigators say neither Casias nor Montoya checked on the baby for nearly 14 hours.
SUV engulfed in flames in fatal crash that killed motorcyclist in Colorado
A fiery crash resulted in the death of a motorcyclist on Monday at about 6:48 p.m. east of Boulder and just north of Lafayette. According to Mountain View Fire Rescue, the deadly wreck took place at the intersection of US 287 and Isabelle Road when a male on a motorcycle disregarded a traffic signal and struck the rear driver's side door of a Mazda SUV. This resulted in a fire, which soon fully engulfed the SUV in flames. Thankfully, the SUV driver was able to escape the vehicle through the passenger door. Crews Knock Down Loveland Residential Fire
One firefighter was hurt during a house fire just east of the Olde Course in Loveland on Sunday afternoon. The Loveland Reporter Herald reports crews went to the home in the 3400 block of Florida Drive about 2:40 p.m., and crews had the fire knocked down by 3 p.m. They initially worried that it might have extended inside the attic of the house, but crews were able to extinguish the fire before it spread.One firefighter was injured on scene and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. No word as yet on a cause.
