Harris Campaign Slams JD Vance For ‘Siding’ With ‘Gun Lobby’ After School Shooting

Vice President Kamala Harris slammed the Trump campaign for choosing the side of the gun lobby after Republican running mate Senator JD Vance (R-OH) used the term “a fact of life” after the most recent school shooting, demanding more school security while attacking the “Kamala Harris answer” of gun control.

In the wake of a devastating school shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia that claimed four lives and injured nine, the debate over gun violence is reignited ahead of the upcoming 2024 presidential election debate.

At a Phoenix event, Vance described the shooting as an “awful tragedy” and emphasized the need for stronger school security.

Opening with an attack on Harris, he said: “Now look, the Kamala Harris answer to this is to take law-abiding American citizens’ guns away from them. That is what Kamala Harris wants to do.”

He continued: “I don’t like to admit this. I don’t like that this is a fact of life, but if you are a psycho and you want to make headlines, you realize that our schools are soft targets. And we have got to bolster security at our schools. We’ve got to bolster security, so if a psycho wants to walk through the front door and kill a bunch of children, they’re not able.”

Harris, however, rejected Vance’s assessment, firing back on social media, sharing the clip.

“School shootings are not just a fact of life,” she wrote. “It doesn’t have to be this way. We can take action to protect our children — and we will.”

Harris’ campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa released a further statement criticizing Vance: “Donald Trump and JD Vance will always choose the N.R.A. and gun lobby over our children.”
