Red Wave get back on track with gashing of Greens

KINGSFORD — Pitching ruled as the Menominee Legion baseball team snapped its five-game losing streak with an emphatic 11-2 victory over Kingsford on Tuesday.

Blake Malke and Aiden Beal combined to toss seven innings of one-hit ball for the Red Wave while Menominee’s offense provided the duo with plenty of support.

Menominee collected 10 hits, four of which went for extra bases, walked four other times and racked up 10 steals against an overmatched Greens squad.

Kingsford’s lone base knock came against Malke in the bottom of the fourth, when Cooper Kresti picked up an RBI-single that allowed Devin Miller to cross home plate for the Greens’ second run of the night.

By that point, Menominee had already seized the lead after an RBI from Chase Monnette made it a 1-0 contest in the top of the second.

Monnette was an RBI-machine on Tuesday, driving in a total of five runs, the second of which came in the top of the fourth to put the Red Wave on top 3-0.

Aiden Sevon plated Monette with an RBI-triple to push Menominee’s lead up to four before Jack Spreen scored the Greens’ first run of the game off a groundout by Domenic Fredrickson in the top of the fourth.

It was all Red Wave from the point, with a two-run double off the bat of Dylan Beal coupled with another ribbie from Monette nudged Menominee ahead 7-2 in the top of the sixth.

Menominee put the finishing touches on the blowout with a four-run outburst in the top of the seventh before Aiden Beal did the rest, retiring Jake Buchcuski, Kresti and Alex Larson in order to end the game.

The Red Wave improved to 7-11 overall with Tuesday’s win.

Tuesday’s action was originally scheduled to be a doubleheader, but as heavy rain began to pummel the field early in game two, the officiating crew made the decision to cancel the proceedings in the second inning, with Menominee up 4-0.
