A 34-year-old man from Gadsden County, Florida, allegedly caught stealing thousands of dollars pretending to be a contractor in Santa Rosa County may have defrauded other prospective homeowners in the area.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office issued a fraud alert Monday for Aron Carrillo after he allegedly took $19,000 from a Milton couple under the pretense of completing home improvements.

A warrant affidavit obtained by the News Journal indicates a Milton couple hired Carrillo through his company "3Carrillos LLC" and paid him $19,000 to construct an addition to their home.

"Carrillo erected three walls under the existing residential structure and fed wiring from the attic to the newly installed walls," the documents say. "After completing part of the work, Carrillo left the location and failed to return to finish the contracted job."

Investigators confirmed that Carrillo did not have an active building contractor or electrical contractor's license after a check with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulations. Investigators also confirmed, after a check with the Santa Rosa County Development Services Center, that there were no permits obtained to perform the work done on the Milton home.

Documents also show that Carrillo's work was deemed "not up to par" with Florida Building Code, especially after a support beam "vital to the structural integrity of the residential structure" was cut, according to a building inspector.

It is estimated the total cost to repair the damage caused by Carrillo is approximately $47,000, according to the affidavit.

Investigators spoke with Carrillo, but his statements were redacted from the document.

The SRSO's fraud alert asks anyone who has had construction work done by Carrillo, his business 3Carrillos LLC or Tres Carrillos LLC to contact the SRSO.

Carrillo was arrested in Gadsden County, according to the fraud alert, and he is awaiting extradition. His pending charges in Santa Rosa include grand theft between $10,000 and $20,000, contracting without a license, electrical contracting without a license, contracting work without a building permit and electrical contracting without a permit.

The SRSO says Carrillo is also facing charges in other Florida counties and has conducted business in Alabama and Louisiana.
