    Six Monroe County students earn full-tuition scholarships

    MONROE — Six area students were awarded full-tuition Presidential Scholarships from Monroe County Community College.

    Recipients are: Clare Boggs, Matthew Burley, Ava Conte, Brianna Cousino, Zackery Palmer and Leah Verner.

    Boggs of Newport is a 2024 graduate of Jefferson High School. She will study business management. Boggs was JHS’s 2024 valedictorian. She was dual-enrolled at MCCC, where she was on the dean’s list fall, 2023. She was president of Student Prevention Leadership Team and National Honor Society, treasurer of Student Council and a member of the Distributive Education Clubs of America. She played on JHS’s varsity volleyball and basketball teams

    Boggs was named the 2023 Junior Academic All-Star and November 2023 Student of the Month. She is a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a member of Monroe Vicariate Teens Youth Group and a volunteer for the Special Olympics. Boggs is the daughter of Thomas and Barbara Boggs.

    Burley of Lambertville is a 2024 graduate of Bedford High School. He will study computer information systems. Burley is the son of James and Stephanie Burley.

    Conte is a 2024 graduate of Jefferson High School. She will study respiratory therapy. Conte was secretary of National Honor Society and vice-president and dance committee chairperson for Student Council. She participated in Upward Bound at MCCC for all four years of high school and volunteered at many events and for community organizations, such as Special Olympics and St. Anne’s Food Drive. Conte is the daughter of Cody and Lauren Pressler.

    Cousino of Maybee is a 2024 graduate of Dundee High School. She will study environmental engineering. Cousino was an officer of the National Honor Society and a member of the Interact volunteer group, Student Council and Student Prevention Leadership Team. She received the top 10 senior scholar and 15-time scholar athlete award and has been a two-time, all-state choral participant. She participated in cross-country, track & field, bowling, soccer, dance, book club, musical theatre and choir. Cousino is the daughter of Duane and Rachelle Cousino.

    Palmer of Monroe is a 2024 graduate of Jefferson High School. He will study nuclear engineering technology. Palmer was a member of National Honor Society, Student Council and Student Prevention Leadership Team. He participated in varsity track & field and football. Palmer received the Summa Cum Laude Award, Sodt Elementary Scholarship and the Jefferson Adult Boosters Scholarship. He is the son of Joshua and Becky Palmer.

    Leah Verner is a 2024 graduate of Airport High School. She will study education. Verner was a member of National Honor Society, National Technical Honors Society and Interact Club. She was involved in a youth group at Kirby Church doing community work and took part in the Junior Drag Racing League for the National Hot Rod Association. She has been in junior drag racing for years. Verner is the daughter of Brian and Cheryl Verner.
