Recycle old electronics and tires in Muscatine
The City of Muscatine will host free drop off weeks for tires and electronics at the Muscatine Transfer Station for residents who have City of Muscatine refuse service. According to a press release, tires will be accepted for free (up to four tires off the rim per residence) from July 8-13. Electronics will be accepted for free (up to three per residence) from July 15-20. Proof of residency (driver’s license) is required to participate in the free drop off week(s).
River Levels Cresting in Western Iowa, Still Rising on the Mississippi
(Council Bluffs, IA) -- The Missouri River is cresting this weekend on the Western Iowa border, in moderate flood stage at Council Bluffs. On the Eastern border the Mississippi River is still rising, and is expected to crest next weekend in major flood stage at Rock Island, Illinois, and Muscatine. Other rivers, including the Des Moines and Cedar Rivers have peaked and are starting to drop.

Columbus Junction City Clerk To Retire In December
Earlier this month, it was announced that Columbus Junction City Clerk, Julie Heindel, will be retiring at the end of the calendar year. Replacing Heindel will be the City’s Deputy Clerk, Jodi Edwards. The two plan to train together over the coming months, with Heindel officially retiring in December. As Edwards makes the transition, the City of Columbus Junction is in the process of hiring a new deputy clerk.
