Highland Baseball Hosts Lone Tree In First Round Preview
Before they square off in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs Saturday, Highland baseball matches up with the Lone Tree Lions tonight on the KCII3 Stream. In each of their last two games, the Huskies have seen early leads fade into close losses. Despite 6 strong innings from Colten Sypherd Thursday, Highland managed just four hits against WMU and stranded eight. They head to the plate tonight with a .245 average and are getting on base nearly 40 percent of the time. The trio of juniors Ryker Miller, William Dunbar, and Logan McFarland lead the bats for Highland, uniting for more than 75 percent of the team’s extra-base hits. The Huskies are coming off one of their best defensive performances against the Wolves. A fielding percentage of .884 and ERA of 5.50 each improved since the team’s last game. Highland trailed the Lions 7-2 halfway through their last meeting, but exploded for seven runs in the sixth and 11 runs in the seventh to blow out Lone Tree 20-8.

Washington Softball Takes Second Half of Double Dip at L&M
The Washington Demon softball team brought their recent losing streak to an end with a 16-8 victory at Louisa-Muscatine last night in the second game of a doubleheader. Having been shut out in the first six innings of Game One, Washington wasted little time getting on the scoreboard in Game Two, scoring four runs in the first inning.
Huskies Stave Off Lion Comeback Attempt, Sweep Lone Tree In Regular Season
After seeing their last two leads slip away from them, Highland baseball held on Monday night to beat Lone Tree 7-5. The regular season sweep was not a guarantee, although the Huskies had about as good of a start as any could hope for. Bryce Hazelett retired the first nine batters faced, including five strikeouts in a row. Meanwhile, Highland’s offense provided a steady attack with two runs in each of the first three innings. Back-to-back doubles from Logan McFarland and William Dunbar got things started. Dunbar would plate McFarland in the second as well, along with a knock from Hunter Seibel. Hazelett helped his own cause with an RBI-double in the third frame and he would later score on one of Caleb Wheeler’s two hits.
