Charles City Main Street Bridge Closed At Least Through July 4th Holiday Weekend
The Main Street Bridge in Charles City, closed by flooding earlier this week, will be closed past the July 4th holiday weekend. Access to the bridge was shut down about 7 pm Sunday (06.23) night after Charles City Police reported possible visible damages to the bridge, which had been bombarded with debris from the bulging Cedar River.
City of Charles City Names New Fire Chief
After a three-month hiring process, the City of Charles City has named its new fire chief. Sam Deverell has been tabbed to succeed current chief, Marty Parcher. Deverell comes to the CCFD after an extensive career in the military and fire service industry. He is a Charles City graduate and recently moved his family back to Charles City.
Floyd, Bremer, Fayette Counties to Share in $25 Million for Bridge Updates
A coalition of Floyd, Fayette, and Bremer counties, plus the City of Dubuque, will each share in $50 million in federal transportation funding. The Department of Transportation’s (DOT) RAISE grants will enhance safety in urban neighborhoods and replace some 29 bridges across Northeast Iowa. The program was funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) supported by U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley in 2021.
Allison City Council discusses a new phone system
This week the Allison City Council discussed new phones for the city that would include the public library, swimming pool, and fire department. There have been several issues with the phones at Allison City Hall where calls have not been coming in or the callers are getting a message that the line has been disconnected.
