North Butler Softball rallies late, defeats AGWSR Friday
The AGWSR softball team had a productive offense, but North Butler rallied late to secure a 14-8 win in Ackley Friday in non-conference action. North Butler scored three in the first inning for an early lead. But AGWSR took a 4-3 lead in the second when Trevyn Smith hit a grand slam, the first of her career. A Grace Pittenger RBI single tied the game in the top of the third. In the fourth, Marcy Allan drove in a run, followed by Kamri Groen and Allan scoring on passed balls for a 7-4 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, AGWSR’s Ella Diemer drove in a run to cut the deficit to 7-5. In the top of the fifth, Izzy O’Dowd gave North Butler an 8-5 lead by scoring on an errant throw to the outfield. In the bottom of the sixth, the Cougars cut the deficit to 8-7 with an RBI double by Smith and RBI groundout by Diemer. North Butler batted around in the top of the seventh, where they scored six runs to seal the win.

Thursday night on Y99.3 Waverly-Shell Rock and Denver softball split. The Go-Hawks won Game 1 9-8 due to a big 5-run 6th inning. In Game 2 Denver beat Waverly-Shell Rock 7-5. The Go-Hawks are in first place in the league. Pre-game at 7:15 and first pitch at 7:30.
